If you visit and want to go around Jakarta, I recommend you use public transportation.
My favorite public transportation was Transjakarta.
Why? Because the buses are comfortable and clean.
There are two types of buses judging by their routes, BRT and Non-BRT. BRT is a bus that passes through existing lanes, which is separate from other public transportation, so it is free from traffic jams. Meanwhile, Non-BRT is buses that pass through public routes, they can get stuck in traffic. You can take a Non-BRT bus by waiting near the bus stop sign at the roadside or the bus stop with a certain route. BRT bus only takes from bus stations, like Bundaran HI, and Monas. But, at the bus terminal, like the Blok M bus terminal, you can take both of bus, BRT and Non-BRT.
The bus stop is modern, clean, and comfortable. The officers are beneficial in providing information about travel routes and stops. Sometimes, at certain bus stops, like the Bundaran HI bus stop, there are food bazaars. So if you are waiting for the bus to come or are hungry in the middle of the road, you can stop by to fill your stomach or buy a drink. You can bring it on the bus but you can’t eat or drink on the bus.
Transjakarta also provides double-decker tourist buses to get around central Jakarta.
There are cards you can use to take Transjakarta. Flazz, e-money, Bank DKI, and Jaklingko. Flazz, e-money can you found at supermarkets like Indomaret and Alfamart, and Jaklingko at the bus stops. I got a Bank DKI card at Ragunan Zoo when I visited Ragunan Zoo and top up at Monas when I visited Monas. You can top up your card balance (for Flazz, e-money, and Jaklingko) at the card machine at the bus stop, with cash and a QR barcode.
